Kelly J. Keegan
BACKGROUND
Kelly was hired as an Associate Attorney with Brandt Criminal Defense in 2006. Over the course of her career, Kelly has worked with several clients to achieve satisfactory resolutions to their criminal cases. She has counseled clients on problems and possible solutions, appeared on behalf of clients at various court hearings, and handled emergency situations such as getting clients released from custody. Kelly first joined Brandt Criminal Defense in 2005 as a Law Clerk/Investigator. In that capacity, she was responsible for legal research, writing briefs and other court memoranda, interviewing witnesses, reviewing discovery, investigating crime scenes, and assisting in trial preparation.
Kelly graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School with honors. As a law student, she spent more time in the courtroom as a certified student attorney than many attorneys do in their entire legal career. She was the Director of the Misdemeanor Defense Clinic at the University of Minnesota Law School, where in addition to personally representing clients charged with misdemeanor offenses, she oversaw a staff of student attorneys representing clients throughout the Twin Cities. Prior to joining Brandt Criminal Defense, Kelly worked as a student prosecutor with the Anoka County Attorney's Office. There, she represented Anoka County in court on civil commitment matters, as well as assisted attorneys with briefs, memorandums, and orders. Her other legal experience includes an internship with the Honorable Judge Bruce A. Peterson, a law clerk position with the Office of the United States Federal Defender, and a law clerk position with a civil law firm doing labor and employment law.
