Charged with a Disorderly Conduct Crime?
Minnesota Statute 609.72 defines the misdemeanor crime of disorderly conduct as taking any action “…in a public or private place, including on a school bus, knowing, or having reasonable grounds to know that [your action] will, or will tend to, alarm, anger or disturb others or provoke an assault or breach of the peace.”
Disorderly conduct is also defined as an offense in which a person recklessly, knowingly, or intentionally:
- Engages in brawling or fighting
- Commits indecent conduct and exposure
- Disturbs an assembly or meeting, not unlawful in its character
- Engages in offensive, obscene, abusive, boisterous, or noisy conduct or in an offensive, obscene, or abusive language tending reasonably to arouse alarm, anger, or resentment in others.
Disorderly Conduct Crimes and Penalties:
Disorderly conduct punishments can include jail time, fines, probation, restraining orders, and/or community service. The crime is classified as a misdemeanor. Persons charged with a disorderly conduct charge involving physical violence may receive harsher punishments. Disorderly conduct in the workplace may be grounds for termination.
